Overtime from the 1880’s to presently San Fernando has undergone a lot of physical changes both to the building as well as the land itself. There was the introduction of mass infrastructure because more space was required for people to settle and work so the land was graded in some areas to facilitate the buildings.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:- The picture above illustrates the land that was grade to facilitate housing. On either side of this property there are housing that were constructed and built. The physical landscape of the environment is being altered to meet the needs of the population. In addition to this the population is continuous growth so hence more space is required changes are bound to take place.

TRANSPORTATION: -
There were vast improvements in the transportation sector to facilitate faster ways to travel and accommodate more people. The medium of getting from one place to another has also changed that is more access route as well as paved road for efficiency. The Water-taxi is also a efficient way the transportation sector has evolved.

HOUSING AND INFRASTRUCTURE:-

The housing and infrastructure of San Fernando has under gone a great deal of modification since the earlier years. There are barely much of the housing or building that carried a “historical” appearance. Now Modern views and infrastructure has taken over to look of the city area. There are tall, massive glass buildings that has replaced the smaller wooden structures.

In addition to the changes taking place there are still some existence of dilapidated building, the mass variety of them present where bought and restored for business purposes or otherwise. However there are some run-down buildings that is still there.

Renovations also has a key role to play in the modifications of the area. The removal of older structures to more modern type ones. There are barely much of the housing or buildings the carried an “older historical” appearance. Majority of them are now big structures with large glass windows.

  1. It is interesting to note that Port-of-Spain was expanded by the reclamation of land, while San Fernando was expanded by the grading of some areas of land.
